Eco Club Outing
Firstly, we went to The Milk Bar to learn about the production of milk. Shannon showed us the cows still waiting to calf and told us all about the steps after calving. We got to see the friendly calves and found out about the milk, water and food they get to activate all four of their stomachs! We got to visit the milking parlour and see the massive tank where the milk is kept cool until it is collected. Did you know that cows produce milk for 305 days of the year? We even got to taste the pasteurised milk straight from the farm by adding a syrup of our choice and making a milkshake! We couldn’t believe the science involved in milk production. Shannon showed us the different sheep they have on their farm and we loved the pet lambs.
We then travelled to Ballyholey Farm where John took us on a trip around the polytunnels and fields while telling us about all the vegetables they plant and the various stages involved. We got some great tips to help us when growing our vegetables at school. We visited the farm shop and saw all the products that John has grown for sale along with other tasty local products. John treated us all to an ice-cream. We even got to meet his two pet pigs!
To finish our Eco Club trip we enjoyed a tasty lunch in McCoys café, Convoy.
